Bookaneers wanted in Williamson Books: A Treasure is the theme of the State Library Summer Reading Program. The Williamson Free Public Library will join libraries across the state with a variety of programs, contests, games, and reading incentives for all ages to make this summer one to treasure. Michelle Byrne, Children's Specialist, has planned a pirates ransom of exciting activities for kids. Registration began Monday for kids up to age 12 to join the reading club. For every 15 minutes spent with a book - either reading independently, with a reading partner, or just enjoying the pictures - children color in a jewel on their treasure sheet. When they're all filled, they will be able to choose a prize from the treasure chest at the library. Its a great way to encourage literacy skills without having to adhere to a schedule of meetings or classes! Kids will do a bit of treasure hunting, too, in the library, complete with a map and clues to help them find the hidden booty. Exciting library entertainment programs will make summer days special. Moreland the Magician is coming on July 11 at 1:30. Air Play will amaze with juggling and comedy at 1:30 on July 26. All sorts of exotic animals will visit on August 2 at 1:30 with Wildlife Educational Encounters. Also for kids, there are Make It, Take It! Mondays from 10 to 7 during the month of July. As always, there are Story Time Stop-Ins at 10:30 and 1:30 every Monday and at 7 p.m. Thursdays. And, don't forget Freebie Fridays on Fridays, of course, from July 7 to August 4. The popular Ice Cream Social will take place at 1:30 on July 19, and registration for this event is required. Kids and young adults both can enjoy Movie Tuesdays on July 18 and 25 and August 1, complete with a new feature film, refreshments and no admission charge! Kristen Johnson challenges young adults more commonly known as teens and tweens from 10 to 18, to read for an iPod shuffle. A winner will be drawn on August 7 from young adult readers who will receive a raffle ticket for each book they check out at the Williamson library. On Wednesdays, there will be a craft project to complete and take home in the teen lounge, and on Fridays its freebies just for stopping by. And every day, there's treasure in a young adult book you never know what you might win! Lest adults think that they are left out, there's loot for them at the library, too. A Reader's Treasure Chest will be raffled off, with tickets for every adult who checks out a book. Its a treasure trove of great books and reading paraphernalia enough to keep any bibliophile happy. Readers aged 15 and up can collect enough jewels to create a sparkling bookmark during the summer by checking out books, too. And if you think you have treasure in your attic or garage, sign up for an eBay class or two by Christine LoDestro On July 12 and 19 at 7 p.m. she'll teach you how to buy or sell your treasures online. Registration is required but there is no admission fee. Copyright
