Lyons Public Library wins $5000 grant

The Lyons Public Library applied for and received a $5000 grant from the Bullis Advised Fund, a component fund of the Rochester Area Community Foundation. The grant award will be used by the library to purchase folding chairs, folding tables, computer workstations and an audiovisual cart.

While the furniture will be used in the current library, plans call for it to be moved to the library's future new home by December 2007. This will ensure that the library will have sufficient folding chairs and tables for the community room that will be located in the new building. While there is a great need to immediately replace several well-used computer workstations, these workstations will eventually furnish the computer lab that has been designed for the new facility.

The portability of the audiovisual cart, designed to accommodate modern technology, facilitates flexibility in the location of library programming in both the present building and the new location.

According to Library Director Theresa Streb, the furnishings were chosen with great care to be suitable for use now and in the future building. We wanted to take advantage of the funding opportunity made available by the Bullis Fund, but also wanted to make sure that they were of enduring quality and design as we will use them for a very long time.

Jeanette Nettie Bullis was an astute businesswoman in Wayne County, who had a strong interest in improving the quality of life for Wayne County residents. Created from a bequest from her estate, the Bullis Advised Fund is a strong supporter of Library services to the community and has helped fund technology purchases and programming in the past.
