It looks like spring is on the way. It's light outside longer and somehow, it just feels different. But as someone said to me this morning, 'We have been fooled before.'

A bit of news from My Sister's Side Door shop in Sodus:

The fragrance of the month is Apricot Mango. We still have a lot of Christmas items for sale at 50% off. We'll have more things happening next month.

And don't forget it is the Lenten Season, so there are a lot of fish frys on Fridays.

At the Williamson Library: (Seems like yesterday my kids were much younger and we were enjoying storytimes.)

LAP-SIT Stories for children 18 months to 3 years Mondays at 10:30 and Wednesdays at 1:30. Children must be accompanied by an adult story partner. No registration required, just stop in!

PRE-SCHOOL Stories for children 3 to 5 years Mondays at 1:30 and Wednesdays at 10:30. No registration required - just stop in!

Stop in and enjoy a story program. Parents are asked to remain with their children during the program. It's fun for everyone! The Storytimes are a great way to get the little ones familiar with the library and the books.

News from Ralph Everdyke in Florida:

Today, March 7, we traveled to Bradenton to the Wayne County Meeting. Betty and I were accompanied by Harold and Jennie Boerman who were orginally from Marion, but now live in Rochester. On the way back we also had Dan Filbert from Marion who went down with someone else who had asked us if he could return with us because they were staying to visit some friends. There were at last count before we left 250 people in attendance. It was a pretty big crowd and the food was very good at the buffet. Of course Betty and Harold met a lot of old friends from Marion and we also met quite a few people that were there from Newark. Next year the meeting will be on March 8th we were told and in the same place. It was about a 150 mile trip for us and the traffic on the way down was quite bad because a lot of people were going to work I guess. On the return trip the traffic was a lot less and we made better time in returning. Betty's brother Donald was also there from Melbourne, Florida so they had driven over the night before and stayed over night in Bradenton. A good time was had by all.

Since St. Patty's Day is coming up here is a recipe from Ivillage. You, of course, can leave out the booze. I'm Irish and have no idea why Irish recipes always have booze in them.

Bread-and-Butter Pudding

1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup Irish whiskey
5 large eggs
2 cups heavy (whipping) cream
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 vanilla bean (see note) or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 ounces (8 to 9 slices) firm white bread, crust left on
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature

Custard Sauce or Irish Whiskey Sauce

In a small bowl, combine the raisins and whiskey and let soak for 1 hour. Butter a 9-inch-square glass baking dish.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the vanilla extract or split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, scrape out the seeds and drop them into the custard.

Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Cut the slices in half diagonally and arrange half the bread, overlapping the slices, in the bottom of the baking dish. Drain the raisins and sprinkle half over the bread. Repeat with remaining bread and raisins. Pour the custard over the bread and let soak for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 F. Place the baking dish in a large baking pan. Add enough hot water to come halfway up the sides of the dish. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden. Remove the baking dish from the water and let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm with a chilled sauce, if desired

The next Sodus Chamber Meeting is on April 7 at Sodus Bay Heights Restaurant. Plans are underway for the 2006 Olde Tyme Country Faire, sponsored by the Sodus Chamber and Great Sodus Bay Association. This year's plans include an expanded location at Sodus Point's Oscar Fuerst Field and also expanded to include Sunday for the vendors. Events are planned for the whole week end of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday July 21, 22 & 23.

The weekend will start off on Friday with the popular Pet Parade, and street dance in the Sodus Village Park along with the Ice Cream Social. The Sodus Golf Team will be selling hot dogs and beverages. Last year's crowd pleasing performances by the Sodus Curves Women and the Ladies from WCTA will be repeated. Any other group or business who would like to 'challenge' these dancers (?) are welcomed. The public is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy an evening in the park with free entertainment and music.

The community yard sale will be conducted throughout the entire township and a variety of vendors will be located at the Oscar Fuerst Field in Sodus Point. Arts and crafts, non-profit organizations, food vendors and all types of businesses will be on hand. Spaces are $50 for 20 x 20, $20 for Chamber and Great Sodus Bay Association members, and free to non-profits that benefit children under 18. Repeat vendors will be given a 10% discount off their vendor fees. There are early bird specials for those signing up before April 1. Call the Chamber at 315.398.8473.

News from the Sodus Free Library: Oscar Night How exciting that someone from 'just down the road' won an Oscar at the 78th annual Academy Awards! Stop by or call the Library to put any movie title on hold.

Children in grades 3 through 6 are encouraged to nominate their favorite book for a '3 Apples Book Award,' developed to encourage the joy of reading for pleasure and to give the children of our State the opportunity to participate in honoring their favorites. Children can pick up nomination forms from Mrs. Olson, Sodus Primary Librarian, or Mrs. VanKouwenberg, Sodus Intermediate Librarian. The completed forms (one nomination per child) can be dropped off at either of the school libraries or at the Sodus Free Library.

There are so many excellent children's books available. We hope that your children visit our libraries soon to vote for their favorites.

There are many fun things in the planning for the spring, summer and fall. I will let you know when they are coming up.

An important March birthday! March 18. When you see Ralph Everdyke, say happy birthday.

Have a great week and remember there are lots of fun Holiday books, and movies to share with your families.

(I tried to wait till St. Patty's day was over but I think we need some pastel colors and fun little Easter things to brighten up the house until the sun actually comes.)

Have a great week and enjoy each other's company. The kids grow up really fast. They'll be reading those library books to you before you know it.

If you have fun Easter or spring traditions you'd like to share, please write to me at
