Newark Wahoos registration next week Do you want to swim better and faster, have fun, learn to race and compete? Then join the spring session of the Newark Wahoos Swim Club. The Wahoos have just completed an exciting and successful winter session with 45 swimmers participating. Children from the ages of 6 to18 trained and competed in local dual meets and USA Swimming sanctioned invitational meets, and achieved many best time performances. The club is coached by Jim DeWitt, Tedd VanDuyne and Danielle Ohlson. They all have extensive experience in competitive swimming and coaching. They will be assisted by coaches Katie Castro, Lindsay Miller, Jody Flannery and Dale Binggeli. Newark Wahoos Swim Club is associated with USA Swimming, the national organization that oversees and coordinates amateur competitive swimming throughout the United States. It is an age-group swimming program designed to teach and develop competitive swimming skills. It is not a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers will be taught to compete, and the focus will be on self-improvement. Membership in the Newark Wahoos Swim Club is open to all students in grades K-12. The only requirement is the ability to swim two lengths of the pool to the satisfaction of the coaches. The spring session will run from March 27 through June 9. Swimmers will practice three nights per week in groups according to age, ability, and prior competitive swimming experience. Experienced competitive swimmers with varsity or modified experience may be eligible to practice up to five nights per week with coachs approval. Practices will run from 5 to 6:30. New swimmer registration will be at the high school pool on Monday, March 27 at 4:45. All swimmers who have not previously swum competitively should bring a suit and towel to registration and be prepared to demonstrate their ability to swim two lengths of the pool to the satisfaction of the coaches. The registration fee varies by grouping and number of practices, with new swimmers starting at either $75 or $90 based upon ability grouping. New swimmers must also pay an annual USA Swimming registration fee of $52, which is due at registration. Questions may be directed to Coach DeWitt at 331.1684 or Coach Van Duyne at 331.6142.
