Library Week in Lyons

National Library Week, April 2-8, includes programs at the Lyons Public Library.

Author Cynthia Henry will talk about her three novels and will sign books on Tuesday, April 4 at 7 p.m.

Copies of her latest title, The Baker's Boy, will be available for sale. This is the first volume in a trilogy featuring the character Frank Rhenqert, a small-town boy who becomes a rock star. Written for adults, the trilogy will cover 30 years in Frank's life as he deals with love and fame.

Two programs with a Hawaiian Luau theme are planned for children on April 5 with a preschool storytime at 10 and an after-school craft program at 3:30.

Mrs. Wolfanger, youth programming specialist, will conduct the programs.

Friends of the Library book review is set for April 7 at noon, with Jean Stoep reviewing Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. Nafisi resigned from her job as a professor at a university in Tehran in 1995 due to repressive policies. She then invited seven of her top female students to attend weekly discussions of classic Western literature in her home. They met for over two years in secret since the books being discussed were illegal.

Staff will give a free pen and bookmark to patrons. All programs are free and open to the public; 946.9262.
