Happy Mother's Day to YOU! Presently, Mildred Adriaansen is a resident at the Wayne County Nursing Home. (I am now collecting information for our dry houses file and also, information for the Flying Dutchman basketball file.) The TULIPS group, of the Red Hat Society, met at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester on Saturday to tour the museum following a lovely luncheon at the Cutler's Restaurant housed there. Attention seniors - high school graduates of St. Gregory's will be recognized Sunday, June 11. Brunch will be served following Mass. St. Pauly's Mission ... at St. Gregory's Church will collect usable clothing for people in the U.S. and Third World countries. All clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, drapes, and stuffed toys are acceptable. NO rags, fabric scraps, pillows, books, toys, or household goods please. Recipe for Lye Soap Use two quarts of melted grease from bacon drippings or scraps of fat meat. Stir in one cup lye, dissolved in one quart water. This will get hot during the mixing process. Allow it to cool until lukewarm. At once, add one cup ammonia and two tablespoons borax dissolved in four cups water. Stir for five minutes or until too stiff to handle. Put away to harden. It is best to let it set for four weeks. Nearly all soaps are better when they get older. The natural glycerin remains in the mixture. Also, it's cheaper. I have been informed that the folks at Drumlin Estates have started recycling. The Bee Skep Restaurant, downtown, is now open Friday nights, with an extensive menu, including fish fry. 'Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.' SCHOOL NEWS - May 1939 - The Marion High School nine will play Walworth at Marion on Friday, May 12, in a league game. To date they have lost one tilt to Macedon. 'Lefty' Nortier will probably pitch with Gerald Petty behind the bat. /With Bob Nevil on first, Dave Crane on second, Herk DeNering at short and Max Cattieu on third, Coach Grace has a fast working infield. In the outfield will be Ray DePauw in right field, Mike Hermanet in center and Harp Wild in left field. The Historic Association members have compiled the following suggestions for the Marion Cemetery, downtown. Plant ivy at the vault; Paint the cement barrier; Fence the Civil War Veterans' graves; Plant trees in memoriam; Lane signs - as Love Seymour Lane N&S - Monument Lane N&S - Memorial Lane, Chapel Lane; Sign at Chapel (from Love Seymour); Place benches for meditating visitors. Congratulations to Randy Van Hall - Most Improved Wrestler. This season, he is on the baseball team and scored four runs against Webster Christian School. Copyright
