Reds track team claims FL East title

The Newark boys track team has won its first Finger Lakes East title in five years.

They entered the May 18 track meet with a chance to clinch the title, but Newark had to defeat the Canandaigua Braves.

Canandaigua also had a chance to tie for the league title with a win over Newark.

Newark defeated Canandaigua 90-46.

Kierra Turner picked up two victories: he won the 100 meter dash in :11.3; J.R. Williams was second and Orcun Apak finished third.

Turner also won the 200 meter in :23.3. Chris Bulman was second in 200 meter and the 400 meter run.

Billy Callahan won the high jump at 5 ft. 6. Chad Christler won the 800 meter in 2:12.3.

Matt Johnson was second in the 3200 meter run.

In the 4x100 relay event, Apak, Bulman, J.R. Williams and Turner were victorious in :45.0.

Newark also won the 4x400 relay event with Bulman, John Pitzeruse, Dynell Scott and A.J. Williams.

In the long jump J.R. Williams took first place, leaping 21 ft. 2. He won the triple jump at 42 ft. 11.

John Gardner won the shot put, 44 ft. 9.

Ryan Daly won the pole vault, vaulting 12 feet.
