Drug raid nets arrests in Newark

Wayne N.E.T. (Wayne Narcotics Enforcement Team) and Newark Police Department raided a East Union Street residence in the Village of Newark on Friday, May 26, 2006 at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Officers performed a tactical entry on 407 East Union Street, the residence of the primary target, Kevin Hobbs, age 28. Newark Police and Wayne Net officers had been investigating Mr. Hobbs for trafficking of crack cocaine. Police were assisted by observations of neighbors, the landlord and patrol officers. This investigation began when neighbors reported an unusually high volume of traffic. Patrol officers recently responded to a reported robbery and a domestic assault, both of which originated at the residence. The house has been a focus for our patrols for approximately two weeks.

Upon entering the residence officers confronted 24 persons, ranging in age from 16 to 39. Police identified all person’s present and made arrests for assorted violations of New York State Law. Those persons who claimed to reside at the residence were charged with Criminal Nuisance in addition to assorted drug or alcohol charges.

Arrested and charged were:

  • Kevin Q. Hobbs, age 28, also known as D.O.C., was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree and criminal nuisance. He was arraigned and committed to Wayne County Jail on $25,000 cash and $50,000 bail bond.
  • Michael W. Alexander, age 27 of Main Street, Sodus, possession of marijuana in the fourth degree. He was arraigned and committed to Wayne County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash, $2,000 bail bond.
  • Jacob A. Johnson, age 21, of 8688 Apt. 12, Old Route 31, Lyons. Arrested on warrants charging violation of parole and aggravated unlicensed operation. Mr. Johnson was sent to Wayne County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash, $2,000 bail bond.
  • Gary J. Barnett, age 26, of 5404 Franklin Road, Marion, was charged with possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was released on his own recognizance.
  • Jason A. Rowe, age 23, of 407 East Union Street, arrested and charged criminal nuisance. He was arraigned and committed to Wayne County Jail in lieu of $500 cash and $1,000 bail bond.
  • Matthew C. Miller, age 23, of 407 East Union Street, was arrested and charged with criminal nuisance. He was committed to Wayne County Jail in lieu of $500 cash and $1,000 bail bond.
  • Patrick A. Young, age 23, of 111 West Myrtle Ave, Newark, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. He was released on an appearance ticket.
  • Jessica L.M. Guthrie, age 19, of 1841 Daboll Road, Clyde, was arrested on an outstanding warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She was committed to Wayne County Jail on $500 cash and $1,000 bail bond.
  • Gregory A. Vibbert, age 22, of 15 Wall Street, Auburn, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. He was released on his own recognizance.

All defendants are scheduled to return to Newark Village Justice Court on June 7, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

Police said that in addition to quantities of marijuana and cocaine, they disposed of a large quantity of alcohol. They seized one vehicle and slightly over $1,000 in cash.

Additional charges are pending on other persons identified to be residents of the 407 East Union Street address.
