Lyons history lecture on school fire

'The Aftermath of the Lyons Union School Fire'

You're invited to attend a free lecture on Lyons history that will be held at the Community Center, 9 Manhattan Street Extension, on June 19 at 1 p.m.

The presenter is author and historic researcher/lecturer Sharon Lubitow.

While researching a separate project and reading archived school board minutes from 1919-1940s, Lubitow found interesting information regarding the impact of the 1920 Lyons Union School Fire.

On December 22, 1920, a fire broke out in the Lyons Union School, a blaze that leveled the building and killed two students. After the fire the school board had the arduous task of not only making plans for the new school building but also devising a plan as to how to offer classes during the three years it would take to rebuild the school.

Pre-registration is required. Call 946.3367.
