Sodus musician honored by Hall of Fame Steve Wickman was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Honor on October 29. The awards presentation was held at the NY State Country Music Hall of Fame, located at the Cortland Country Music Park. The prestigious award was presented by Bill Doc Weismore from the Hall of Fame Nominations Committee. Wickman lives in Sodus and has been in a band for most of his life. These bands include: Misty Blues, Country Magic, and The Heaters. He played in the Country Magic band at The Red Rooster restaurant in Fairville, for nearly 15 years. He has played up and down the east coast and all over Wayne, Seneca, Ontario, Onondaga, Monroe and Livingston counties and much of central New York. Wickman enjoys entertaining and has played at numerous bar, college, and fair performances raising money for those in need. He also did a live radio broadcast raising money for the American Heart Association. Some highlights of his musical career include meeting Mel Tillis, performing at The Stables in Westminster, MD and playing with Herman's Hermits in 1974. He is currently the lead singer and lead guitarist for the Lyons band, The House Rockers. Steve is a versatile musician who can play lead guitar, bass, rhythm guitar, drums and keyboards. He is currently learning pedal steel. A talented musician, he has played all different styles of music, but always has promoted and cherished country music, his first love. Wickman was selected for the NY State County Music award because of his excellence as a country music singer. He takes pride in helping younger musicians to get started in the business.
