Peebles open today in Newark

'It's just like Sibley's,' they said, referring to the former Rochester department store that opened a branch in the same location 50 years ago.

Peeble's opened this morning in Newark Plaza. By 8:30 a.m. there was a line in front of the store that extended across the parking lot.

A ribbon-cutting was attended by Mayor Peter Blandino, Supervisor Joe DeSanto, Chamber of Commerce President Greg Grey, and other dignitaries.

Among those employed at the new store is Betty Kneut, formerly with 'The Paris' in Newark, recently working in the Geneva Peebles.
