Great showing for Newark swimmers The Lady Reds swim team had its best showing ever, taking third place at the Finger Lakes League Championship Meet - with 337 points. A total team effort led to the Reds success, scoring four swimmers in five events and three swimmers in all the other events. Holly Gilligan earned league champion honors, winning the 50 freestyle in a best time of 25.83. Gilligan also earned honorable mention all-league honors with a third place finish in the 100 freestyle. Also winning all-league honors were Cara Wilck, who took second in the 100 backstroke and Kayla Binggeli, who took second in the 100 breaststroke. Meghan DeWitt, one of Newark's captains, was voted the Ross Nelson Outstanding Senior Swimmer Award by the Finger Lakes League coaches. This award is given to a senior swimmer who exhibits dedication and excellence in swimming along with leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship and service. Newark's medley relay of Meghan DeWitt, Cara Wilck, Alyssa Peake and Holly Gilligan took third place, as did the 200 freestyle relay of Cara Wilck, Rebecca VanDuyne, Liz Murphy and Holly Gilligan.
