fall leavesMissing Sodus

The weekend was nice for the Wintertime Fling - not cold , not snowing , raining (though we did see some signs of the winter stuff on Thursday and Friday.) It wasn't snowing in Wayne County last weekend, was it?

It is a little difficult getting used to the new place - no big yard of my own to look out at, with the animals from the woods coming out and picking at the flowers. It'll be easier to garden in the smaller garden I have now. Though I do like looking out into the woods. At this point, I am still looking through a sea of boxes. Who knows what I will be able to see out of the window when I can find it again.

Is everyone getting ready for Thanksgiving? The time is going by so quickly. We have to make plans soon.

The 13th Annual Friends and Family Craft Show and Sale is tomorrow and Sunday (November 12 & 13) from l0 to 4 at 7556 Sodus Center Rd. in Sodus Center. Find that one-of-a-kind treasure perfect for someone on your list (or maybe just for you). Enjoy refreshements and sign up for a door prize. Follow the signs off Rt. l04, Route 88 and South Geneva Rd.

Pam Heald, Linda Graffius and Julie Gelina were elected to the Board of Directors for 2007-2009 term. Congratulations to all and a BIG thank you.

Mark your calendars there are a lot of fun things coming up.

News from the Sodus Free Library:

Our Teen Book Club held its first meeting Friday afternoon, discussing Vivian Vande Velde's book Heir Apparent. All the work of organizing the club has been done by Jesi Jonasse as part of her Girl Scout Silver Award project, and the Friends of the Sodus Free Library donated the books. After a lively discussion of Vande Velde's book, the girls decided that the next book they want to read is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.

Our Library has once again made the list of America's Top 100 Libraries! The 2006 HAPLR (Hennen's American Public Library Ratings) Index is being published in the November 2006 issue of American Libraries, and will list the top 5 libraries in each of 10 population categories based on the size of the communities the libraries are chartered to serve. (We are chartered to serve the Village of Sodus, so our population category is that of 1,000-2,499.) The author of the Index, Thomas J. Hennen, gathers statistics from all U.S. libraries' State reports, including information on circulation, staffing, materials, reference service, funding levels, along with ten other areas, and then computes scores for all the libraries according to their size.

With a score of 934, the Sodus Free Library was named #1 in our category! We're all excited about this honor, and broke out the brownies in celebration.

13th Annual Wayne County Bed & Breakfast Open House Tour is this weekend:

Experience hospitality at its best with these unique bed and breakfasts throughout the Northern Region of the Finger Lakes. Whether decorated for the Fall Harvest, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, these unique Get-Aways are sure to stir your imagination for gift giving, decorating, or just plain fun. All offer comfortable affordable respite for visitors to the area.

The 2nd Edition of the Apple County Bed & Breakfast Cookbook will also be featured and available for sale during the tour. Special recipes served at each bed & breakfast are listed with a picture and map on how to find the B & B. The cookbook order form is also available online. Tickets are $13 after today. (You can get one today for $10.)

We are getting into the Christmas spirit a tad early as far as movies go. There are a lot of good Christmas-time movies to see and only so many weekends to see them in. Saturday we went to see the third Tim Allen movie The Escape Clause. We have always enjoyed the Santa Clause movies and this one was just as much fun to watch as the others. It is easy to jump too far ahead, though since everywhere we go there are Christmas lights blinking at us from every direction. Keep focused.

Have fun planning your Thanksgiving celebration, and head to the library to pick up some fun Thanksgiving movies and stories to read with the kids. There aren't as many stories as there are for Halloween and Christmas, but if you get there early enough you will find quite a few. Then, right after Thanksgiving head for the Christmas books. They go really quickly.

Have a great week and enjoy each other's company. Families are important.
