November 18, Tommy's, located 145 Railroad Ave. in Newark, is hosting the Peter Ververs Memorial Benefit from noon to 6. See story on page 2.

November 20 MUSEUM hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The display is titled 'Honoring Grandparents.' The plan is to have the aroma of apple butter permeating the rooms with samples for tasting.

Thanks to Ellen Rich, I now have another informative book on 'Outhouses' for my file.

November 18 - Marion Fire Dept. Turkey Party. 7:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall

The Marion Boy Scouts Food Drive appreciates everyone who contributed items for the Marion Food Pantry. Boy Scouts and their leaders deserve 'thanks' for collecting for the pantry.

Frank Hutter has donated a large collection of Marion Boy Scout memorabilia for our archives, scrapbooks, movies, pictures, articles, & flags.

From the Marion Enterprise 1912: - The Trustees of Marion Cemetery are constructing a cement bridge at the south entrance. June 21. A new concrete bridge has been built over the creek at the Cemetery entrance. June 28.

Spiced Prunes

• 1 lb. or package of prunes
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 tsp. cinnamon

Break up prunes in sauce pan and slightly cover with water. Cook until tender. Put in sugar just before they are done. When done, thicken juice with flour. Put in serving dish and sprinkle with white sugar and cinnamon.

School recess for Thanksgiving is November 22-24.

President Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863.

'Thanksgiving has also come to mean football, beginning in the morning and running until the late afternoon, and there's always the question of when dinner should be served, at halftime, or after the game. Some households make it simple - they eat all day.'
