Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Do you believe Thanksgiving is just next week? It seems to be coming terribly fast this year. Maybe it's because I am still surrounded by boxes.

There was a show on about Thanksgiving and it said that perhaps instead of the triptafan in the turkey said to make you tired, it could be from over-eating and the amount of heavy carb overload that. A cute finger play for you to do with the kids on Thanksgiving

Five Little Turkeys

  • 5 little turkeys standing by the door, One waddled off, and then there were 4.
  • 4 little turkeys under a tree, One waddled off, and then there were 3.
  • 3 little turkeys with nothing to do, One waddled off, and then there were 2.
  • 2 little turkeys in the noon day sun, One waddled off, and then there was 1.
  • One little turkey better run away, For soon will come Thanksgiving day.
  • If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims!
  • Why did they let the turkey join the band? Because he had the drumsticks.

Ok, enough is enough, but Thanksgiving just doesn't seem to be celebrated enough. Not as many books and movies about it.

Sodus Free Library news:

More Books, Please!, is this year's theme for the 87th observance of Children's Book Week, encouraging children, and the adults who care for them, to spread the joy of reading by spending some time with a book each day. Celebrate Children's Book Week by stopping by the Library to check out the new books on our children's shelves.

The other day, in chatting with Ralph Everdyke, the temps in Florida were going to be in the 70's. (We'd take 60's and some sunshine.)

There's a Country Craft Market & Cafe tomorrow (November 18), from 10 to 3 at the Sodus Point United Methodist Church. Craft items for sale and lunch available. To benefit Volunteers in Mission trip to Mississippi in January 2007 in rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina.

Also on Saturday is the Blue Moose Silent Auction and Spaghetti Dinner from 5 to 9 at the Wolcott Elks Lodge, West Port Bay Road. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked spaghetti dinner while you bid on hundreds of items. Dinner-$7.50 adults/$5 children.

I took a peek at December's calendar, and it is filled with fun things to get everyone in the mood for the holidays. But we have to be good and get through Thanksgiving first.

Hurry out and get some Thanksgiving stories and movies to share with the family. A fun thing to do with the family while you are waiting for the turkey is to watch the Macy's parade. Brings back fun memories of the past. I can even almost smell the turkey. Put out some construction paper and have the kids make some decorations...a little tape and scissors and you have paper turkeys everywhere.

Have a great Thanksgiving whether you have plans to stay at home or go to Gramma's house. Enjoy each other's company. You have a lot to be thankful for.
