Dec. 9 dinner for Nicaragua mission trip

Nicaragua volunteer work team from East Palmyra will be sponsoring an elegant Holiday Dinner on Saturday evening, Dec. 9.

There will be seatings at 5 and 7:30 in the fellowship hall at the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church, on the East Palmyra-Port Gibson Road. Make reservations by calling 926.0934 or 597.2131.

The dinner will raise funds for building materials to be used by the volunteer work team in Nicaragua in February.

Featured will be spiral sliced ham with raisin sauce, cheddar potatoes, salad, sides, rolls, dessert, and choice of beverages. Cultural items and information about Nicaragua will be on display.

The Nicaragua work team will go to Nicaragua February 15-26. This is the second volunteer group sponsored by the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church.

Team members are paying their own flight and housing costs, but they're raising $500 per person for the building materials to be used in Nicaragua. Donations are greatly appreciated.

In February 2005, a team of 17 spent 10 days in Nejapa, Nicaragua, on the outskirts of Managua, working at a Spanish Christian school. During long, dusty, hot days they did cement and dirt work, dug trenches for electrical lines, bent and tied re-bar, painted and did landscaping.

The team had the opportunity to work with the people and experience first-hand the difficulties and poverty of Nicaragua.

The administrator over two Christian schools in Nicaragua is Liam Starkenburg, 1996 graduate of Newark High School.

Nicaragua Christian Academy, a fully-accredited English school serves 225 students in Pre-K through grade 12, and Nicaragua Christian Academy Nejapa, a newly formed Spanish school, has 129 students enrolled.
