Lyons students at Ohmann Theatre The Lyons Middle School show, Pieces and Plays for Christmas Days, will be staged at the Ohmann Theatre, December 8, 9 & 10. Rehearsals are in full swing. Pieces and Plays for Christmas Days, takes place in the 1920s, in a one-room school house, somewhere in the west. 'We were looking for a nice family show for Christmas and couldn't find exactly what we were looking for,' said Director and author Larry Ann Evans. Then I found this book of recitations, little skits and songs published in the 1920s and thought This is it! Jean Stoep is the co-director. She and Evans began picking out the pieces that they liked the best. Evans went home and pieced them together with a story line that revolves around one little girl's desire to dance the lead in the Christmas pageant ballet that is performed every year by a fellow student. The cast is made up of 30 Lyons Middle School students with the leads played by 8th Graders Kayla James, and Richelle Coons, 7th graders Claudia Henry, George Dobbins and Michael Williams, 6th grader Garrett Coons, and 5th grader Alex Calvo. The musical numbers included in the show are fun old time favorites like Yankee Doodle Dandy, My Bonnie and Working on the Railroad. Some musical solos will be sung by Mikayla Bastian, Kaila Kise, Alexa Smith and Mariah Virts. There are also many Christmas songs throughout, such as Silent Night and Joy to the World. Audience participation in some of the songs will make the evening family fun. The show also has some tap dancing numbers and even the boys Shuffle-off-to-Buffalo. A moving ballet interpretation of The Little Match Girl rounds out the dance numbers. Pieces and Plays for Christmas Days will play at the Ohmann Theatre in Lyons, NY December 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and December 10 at 2. Tickets will be available at Dobbins Drugs, Old Lyons Hardware Store and at the door and are $5 Adults and $4 for Seniors and Children 12 and under.
