Picnics at ALASA

Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven announces 'Pick and Picnic with the Farm Animals' each day in October, from 10 until 4.

Pack a picnic and your hiking shoes, load up the kids, and head out for a great day of country fun at historic Alasa Farms, a 19th-century Shaker community. Pick the freshest apples around from our easy to reach trees; there are loads of varieties including those wonderful Honey Crisps. Apples are priced by the bag, not by the variety.

Go for a hayride, hunt for fossils along our beautiful creek below a waterfall, tour the Shaker museum, take home some souvenirs from the gift shop, and visit with the friendly animals of Cracker Box Palace. This is a no-kill shelter for farm animals and we have over 150 bunnies, horses, sheep, goats (some babies too!), pigs, chickens, geese, and ducks. Animals are available for adoption.

Self-guided farm tour brochures are available; guided tours are available to groups of all sizes. Phone 483.2493 for reservations.

Located at the corner of Shaker and Red Mill Roads, Alton, (off Route 14 North from Route 104).
