New Orleans visitors at St. Mike's

St. Michael School adopted a parish in New Orleans after the city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina last August.

Visitors from New Orleans visited the Newark parochial school on October 23.

Patty Glazer, principal, and Miss Denise Theriot, teacher, shared with the SMS students a Power Point presentation showing their elementary school, Holy Rosary Academy and their high school, Holy Rosary High School. They spoke about the long struggle their families are facing to rebuild their lives.

They said the support of people like the families and students from St. Michael School continues to help them put their lives back together. St. Michael School presented them with a gift of the coins the students have been bringing to school in their 'Sock it to Katrina' project. Prayer shawls made by St. Michael's parishioners were also given to the visitors.

The children are working to build a supportive relationship between New Orleans students and St. Michael students through letter writing and/or e-mails.

St. Michael School would like to ship some of their older library books to Holy Rosary Academy to help them put their library back in working order. They are looking for people to help pay the postage to ship the books to New Orleans.

If you can help, please call SMS at 331.2297.
