Marion Mile race this weekend It is time to make plans for the Marion Mile Race. The 10th race will again coincide with Marion's annual Fall Festival. At 9 a.m. Saturday, September 9, runners of all ages and skills will gather across from the Marion Post Office for the start of another exciting race on the familiar downtown course. This race is designed for the involvement of the whole family. It doesn't matter if you want to run, walk, or jog. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. There are categories for juniors (ages 11 and under), teenage boys and girls (Ages 12-18), Adult Men and Women (ages 19-39), and, of course, the infamous Masters categories for men and women over age 39). A fee of $3 per person will be charged, with a maximum of $8 for a family of three or more. Entrants are encouraged to bring a canned or boxed food item with them on the day of the race. All money and food will be donated to the Marion Food Pantry. Over $1000 dollars and many boxes of canned goods have been raised for the food pantry since the race began in 1996. All runners will receive T-shirts for participating in the race, thanks to the generous, donations of sponsors, whose names will be printed on the back of the shirts. Marion art teacher Julie Zeller and her students have designed this year's Marion Mile Logo. In addition to the T-shirts, the overall winner and the winners in each category will receive prizes that have been donated by local businesses. Entry forms will be available at the Town Hall, the Marion Pharmacy, and the Library. For more information on the race call John Bovet at 926.5217. Copyright
