Mark Wyman of the American Legion Home announced that 56 Marion citizens reported at the Red Cross Blood Drive on August 22, from which 50 pints of blood were collected. This is the largest number of donations in recent blood drives - thanks! to all who contributed this life-saving potion.

August 26, 1909 - The cement walk being laid northward from the A.B. Gurney place to the upper corners in Marion, will cost residents of that street six cents per square foot.

I've been staying close to home this past week since I fell and cracked a rib - but I'll be at the museum tomorrow at our Fall Festival Day.

Bricks often served as ballast on ships taveling to the American Colonies. Once here, they were unloaded and used for building.

Actually, there is a lot of outhouse lore, such as the crescent moon (Luna symbolized womankind) sawed into the door. The story is that originally there was also a nearby outhouse with a sun (Sol symbolized man) and these two symbols were just like our modern 'Ladies' and 'Gents' signs of today. But in the late 1800's when the country inns became less elegant, the men's outhouse was discontinued because of the proximity of the forests or bushes, and only the outhouse with the crescent remained.

'Happy Birthday Wishes' to Edna Lonneville on September 10 from her family and friends.

The Marion Senior Citizens are planning on having a fall luncheon. They will get together on Tuesday, September 12 at 1 p.m. at the Cross Park Restaurant in Newark. Anyone who is interested, please call Anne at 926.4494.

Barb and Bill DeWandel spent Friday traveling to East Aurora, NY, where they enjoyed a visit at Vidler's Old-Time 5 and 10 Store - the one with the red and white striped awning out in front.

I received a gift of elderberries from the family of John & Jane Ballesty and their boys. (They are getting scarce since everyone is cleaning out their hedge rows.) So Aidan and Brian will be getting their pie next week.

Re-dedication of St. Gregory's Church on Sunday, September 10, 2006. Mass at 10 a.m. - Bishop Matthew H. Clark, Presider. Father Jim will be sharing this special occasion.
