'Vintage Voices' in Lyons Friday The Lyons Civic Club, Inc. will showcase Lyons history in the production, Vintage Voices, that will be held at the Lyons Rural Cemetery, Spencer Street, on Friday, September 15. Beginning at 6:15 p.m., guided tours will leave every 15 minutes, with the last performance beginning at 7. Free valet parking will be available. Former Lyons residents who share their life stories include drowning victim, Michael Gleichman; Civil War veteran, George Rooker; Erie Canal boat runner, Jacob Buckemeer; sleigh accident victim, Wilson Langdon; Lyons physician and health officer, Dr. James Putnam; Charles Gilbert, a young man who died from injuries suffered in a fall at the courthouse construction site, Freddie Coleman, a young boy who was run over by a train; Isabelle Hartman, a young lady who was killed sledding down Queen Street Hill; and Eleanor Andrus, a woman who was not nearly as insane as people thought. Others, who share stories of early Lyons, include: Mrs. John Teeter, a woman who fed hoboes and was rewarded for her kindness; Fred Lauster, a man who claims he is no arsonist; Harriet Rozelle, 91-year-old with a fantastic memory; and J. W. Oldacre, a man who swears his home remedy of kerosene and brown sugar was the reason for his good health. Actors include Cynthia Cuddeback, George Dobbins, Jessica Edgington, Karen Kehoe, Matt Killips, Dave Howard, Eric Lewis, Tom Sawtelle, Stuart Smart, Jean Stoep, and Patty Youngman. Tickets may be purchased at the James Sullivan Insurance Agency on 36 Canal Street, Dobbins Drug Store on 52 William Street, at the Civic Club booth at the Farmer's Market or by calling Sharon Lubitow at 946.3367. The size of the groups will be limited. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children under twelve who are accompanied by an adult. Proceeds of the event will be used for future programming.
