County Museum seeks actors

The Museum of Wayne County History needs actors for an upcoming historical play titled 'Back to Life.'

Auditions will be held Tuesday, September 26, and Wednesday, September 27, at 6 p.m. in Finger Lakes Community College's Wayne County Campus Center, 1100 Technology Parkway, Newark. (The college's new campus center is located in the former Sarah Coventry building on Route 88 South.)

Actors aged 16-99 are encouraged to audition.

The play, written by Lyons playwright Pat Gorthy, consists of a series of vignettes from different decades in the 20th century. The monologues and dialogues are based on oral history interviews that Gorthy conducted with many diverse Wayne County residents. All fifteen towns in Wayne County are represented, and the stories told show Wayne County's place in world events. All of these stories will be enhanced by vintage photos, period music, newspaper clippings and other items featured in a multimedia presentation created by experienced theatre director R.J. Rapoza.

Those auditioning will be asked to read selections from the play. No advance preparation is required. This is a great opportunity for experienced actors to stage a return to theatre while offering novices the opportunity for a debut. It is also a great way to meet new friends who love to perform, who love history, and who are proud of our area's heritage.

The play will be performed Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5, at the recently-renovated Ohmann Theatre in Lyons. This performance is made possible through the generous support and assistance of the Robert G. Boehmler Community Foundation, Finger Lakes Community College, Lyons Public Library, Ohmann Theater, Ann Salerno and Stuart Smart, and the members and donors of the Museum of Wayne County History.
