Happenings At Easter time, new hope awakes Within our hearts as morning breaks, Sunshine and lilies breathe a prayer Of thanks that God is everywhere. - (Isla Parchal Richardson) There's a Pancake Breakfast on April 7, 8 to 11, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt, at the Legion. Here are some fresh-as-spring facts I found fascinating: When you plant daffodils, keep in mind that when daffodils first open, they always face south. (Honest, that's what the article said. I hope this doesn't open up the whole 'Do sunflowers really turn and face the sun each day?' controversy again! Maybe some of you can check out this daffodil deal when they come up this spring, okay?) Did you know that spring moves north at the rate of about 16 miles a day? This means that a person walking at a steady, normal pace could keep up with it, watching dogwoods come into bloom the whole way north. April 6-13 - No school - Spring Recess 'Children are unpredictable. You never know what inconsistency they are going to catch you in next.' (Henry Ward Beecher) Easter - March 1940: All the grade rooms are very attractive with Easter decorations. The art classes have been making Easter drawings and some groups are decorating eggs. Bunnies of all sorts and colors are much in evidence in the different rooms and many types of Easter baskets are being made. Some of the grades will have Easter parties on Thursday morning. Bill called from New York City to tell us that if you earned $30 an hour, and gas was $3.00 a gallon, you'd work six minutes. And if you earned $10 an hour, at the same price per gallon, you'd work 18-20 minutes to pay for your gallon of gas. Thanks, Bill!
