Turning Wood at County Museum

The Wayne County Historical Society is set for 'History at Night' Thursday, April 19 at 7.

The topic will be 'Turning Wood: Finding the Beauty Within' with Phil Paliotti.

Since wood is a living form, it is different from working with glass or clay. Turners and sculptures of wood say that they try to reveal through color, grain, hardness, softness, burls and spalting the inherent beauty underlying the living thing.

Lyons resident Paliotti, whose work is displayed in the museum gift shop and also in Newark at Wayne Arts, will be discussing the wood and techniques he uses to make his elegant pottery, bowls, and ornaments.

The History at Night series is held in the old Sheriff's office in the Museum of Wayne County History, 21 Butternut Street.
