'A Taste of Art' in Newark
By John Zornow

Organizers of the Timothy C. Johnson Cultural Platform, in partnership with the Newark Public Library are planning a 'tasting' that will celebrate local artists and their crafts.

'A Taste of Art' will take place at the Library Saturday, April 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Invitations have been sent out to people who work in charcoal and oils, mixed media, paint and sculpture, as well as poets, musicians and everything in between.

Each artist will have their own area to display their craft, or demonstrate their tools. It is hoped that this event will serve to educate, entertain, and enlighten the community of Newark, and the surrounding area.

The Timothy C. Johnson Cultural Platform fund was established to honor Tim's 25 years of service to Park Presbyterian Church and Newark. The first event, held two years ago, welcomed Dr. Timothy Johnson, medical news commentator for ABC television and celebrated author. It was a resounding success.

Those attending 'A Taste of Art' will have an opportunity to cast a ballot for their favorite artist or display, with several prizes, including an overnight at Vintage Gardens Bed & Breakfast, including a basket of Vintage Gardens products. This prize has been donated by Michael and Kimberlee Meeks, owners of Vintage Gardens Bed and Breakfast, located at 310 High Street in Newark.

Providing background music for the event is Ms. Elizabeth Munch, a native of Penfield, N.Y. who has been a harpist since the age of eight. Elizabeth studied with Roxanne Ziegler and has been the Principal harpist with the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, and the Oberlin in Italy Festival.

A Taste of Art will feature good food, wine, dessert, and great company. Tickets are $15 and available at Park Presbyterian Church or the Newark Public Library. Proceeds will benefit future programs and events sponsored by the Timothy C. Johnson Cultural Platform.
