Five arrested Thursday in Newark
On April 12, members of WayneNET, Ontario County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and the New York State Police culminated a three-month investigation with the execution of two search warrants and five arrests in Newark. The investigation was dubbed Operation Care Bear. This multi-agency effort addressed crack cocaine trafficking that impacted several communities in Wayne and Ontario County. The following were arrested: Kerry A. 'Care Bear' Orwen, 33, of 801 Church Street, Newark, charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, which is a class B felony. Tamarah L. Ippolito, 48, of 108 Vienna Rd., Lot 33 Vienna Estates, Newark, charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony. Ashley L. Feliciano, 31, of 801 Church Street, charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. Tomas Marcano, 39, of 108 Vienna Rd., Lot 33 Vienna Estates, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor. George D. Brown, 21, of 801 Church Street; he was arrested on a Bench Warrant for fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor. Brown's case stems from his failure to reappear in court. All five were arraigned by Village of Newark Justice/Town of Arcadia Judge Daniel Barrett and remanded to jail. Orwen and Ippolito's bail amounts were set at $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Feliciano and Marcano's bail amounts were $1000/$2000. Brown's bail was $5000/$10,000. Orwen, Ippolito, Feliciano, and Brown are due back in court Wednesday, April 18; Marcano is due in court on April 25. WayneNet and Ontario County Sheriff's Office members expect more arrests, connected to the 'Care Bear' organization. These defendants may also face additional charges. Police said the defendants said they were 'glad it's over' and the arrests are a motivator to end the cycle of crack cocaine use and making money illegally. Newark Police Chief Richard Bogan, Commander of WayneNET, stated: 'Once again we have demonstrated that our multi-agency cooperative efforts are vital against the illegal narcotics trade. The sharing of resources and information is certainly making a positive impact on our respective communities. This case in particular got off the ground due to many citizens from several of our communities utilizing our website, WayneNet.info, and making phone calls which provided valuable tips. We thank those citizens.' Copyright
