Wegmans honored by Food Network

Wegmans was a winner at the 2007 Food Network Awards hosted by Emeril Lagasse, which aired this past Sunday (April 15).

The 70- store, family-owned supermarket chain won in the following category:

'SUPER Market presented to the grocery chain that has changed the way we shop'

Complete with a red-carpet entrance, the Oscars-style awards show recognized people, products and organizations with food innovations in several categories.

Wegmans was one of three finalists for the SUPER Market award. The other nominees in the category were Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

On hand to announce the winners were many of the Food Network's biggest stars Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentis, Bobby Flay, Paula Deen and Alton Brown.

Presenting Wegmans with its award were Sandra Lee (Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee) and Bobby Deen (Road Tasted).

'It is always nice to be recognized, but when it comes from folks who love food as much we do, it is extra special,' said Colleen Wegman, president. 'This award belongs to our people. By sharing their knowledge and providing incredible service, they have truly changed the way people shop.'
