LV Tutor Training

Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, responding to community interest, will be offering a special weekday training of volunteer tutors. Tutor Training classes will be begin Monday, April 23 and continue on Wednesday, April 25 and Monday, April 30.

Sessions last from 9 to 3, at First Presbyterian Church at 11 Queen Street in Lyons. Tutoring offers interested people an opportunity to work with motivated individuals who are seeking to improve their lives. Tutors have a chance to work one-on-one or in small groups assisting adults with basic literacy, GED, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), or mathematics.

Potential tutors must be 18, have a high school or GED diploma, and be willing to attend the complete 18 hours of training. Once certified, a tutor should be willing to spend at least two hours per week working with an adult and keep some basic records. No knowledge of a foreign language is required for ESL tutoring, and you do not need any teaching background. A $15 donation is asked to help defray the cost of the Tutor Manual.

For information on becoming a certified Literacy Volunteer Tutor, call 946.5333.
