TV Turnoff Week coming The Center for Screen-Time Awareness has designated April 23-29 as 'TV Turnoff Week.' Television cuts into family time, harms our children's ability to read and succeed in school, and contributes to unhealthy lifestyles and obesity. The Center also reports that on average, children in the US will spend more time in front of the television (1023 hours) than in school this year (900 hours) and that 40 percent of Americans frequently or always watch television during dinner. TV-Turnoff Week is supported by over 70 national organizations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Education Association, President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council. Partnering with the State Department of Health, the Center for Screen-Time Awareness has sent information on TV Turnoff week to all schools in the state encouraging kids to watch less TV. Instead of watching TV, the Center promotes physical activity, reading, cooking and other family activities.
