Flag collection this Saturday in Newark On Saturday, April 28, members of Boy Scout Troop 122 will be going door to door in the village of Newark to collect torn, weathered, and faded American flags to be retired in a public retirement ceremony. The public ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the VFW located at 225 East Union Street. When the scouts come to your door, you may purchase a Capitol flag through Troop 122 for $17.30 to replace your old one if you so desire. These are 3x5 cotton American flags that have flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The money goes directly for the purchase of your flag. There will also be flag collection boxes located at the Newark Public Library and the Post Office through May 25 for the public to place their old flags. The collection of flags and the public retirement ceremony is being done as a service project for Eagle candidate, Chris Jackson. If there are any questions, he can be reached at 331.0529 in the evenings.
