Missing Sodus

Wow! Not sure once we get nice weather if we will have summer or spring? We need to ease into summer and hot weather.

No matter how large or small your outside space, you can make it your own, comfy, and enjoyable to use. We have a smaller space now and it was important to make it fun to use, comfortable to sit and enjoy the nicer weather. We found a small grass umbrella for $30. The grass is attached to a regular, functional umbrella. For $l each, bamboo placemats compliment the set. Some cute things for the table, and you're good to go. Smaller areas can bring your own cozy garden of flowers, herbs and plants to you. You don't have the lawn, perhaps, but think of it as less work to do. Be happy with the space you have and totally enjoy it. Appreciate what you have and make it the best patio, lanai, terrace or deck that you can make it. After all, as Russell Simmons said the other day on tv, '...you can only sit in one chair.'

While working, it is more important to come up with fast recipes the kids will eat. But whether you are a working mom or stay-at-home mom, you are still a mom working and fussy children can be frustrating. This one my fussy one actually tried and liked.

Easy Italian Chicken Pie

  • 2 cups cubed cooked chicken
  • 1/3cup thinly sliced green or red bell pepper
  • 1/2cup pizza sauce
  • 1 package (4 ounces) shredded Italian-style cheese blend, pizza cheese blend or mozzarella cheese (1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup Original Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Heat oven to 400F. Spray 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray or grease with shortening.

Stir chicken, bell pepper and pizza sauce in pie plate; arrange evenly. Sprinkle with cheese. Stir remaining ingredients in small bowl with fork or wire whisk until blended. Pour into pie plate.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

May Day is the lst of May.

I can remember being little in school and making May baskets to surprise my mom with for May Day. Surprise your neighbor with a special May Day basket and make many other crafts. May Day is celebrated in many places around the world. The traditions and stories surrounding May Day vary from place to place. There is, however, one thing that is similar in most celebrations - the use of flowers!

One of the most popularly known May Day traditions is to hang a basket full of spring flowers and/or other small gifts on a neighbor's doorknob. The trick is you don't want the neighbor to see you!

On May 1, people in Hawaii celebrate their own version of May Day; they call it Lei Day. People give Hawaiian leis to each other. They put them around each other's necks and sometimes give a traditional kiss.

From the Greenhouse: You can plant pansies, primrose and perennials as well. If you can't wait and do get annuals to put in your planters or pots bring them inside until the temps at night are warmer. The hanging baskets are out in the greenhouses, so if you just can't resist, please be sure not to forget and leave them out overnight. Enjoy it outside during the nice days and then bring it in the house, the garage or someplace warmer at night. End of May beginning of June is safer to have annuals outside and you can enjoy them for many months.

Wayne County seems pretty calm right now, but once the warm weather starts everyone will have so many things to do they won't know which thing to do first. Use this time to paint, clean or stain the deck; clean the lawn furniture off and get ready for the warm weather. Then, when it does come and all of the events begin, you'll be able to do them all without feeling guilty.

Enjoy each other. Take a visit to the libraries. Get out some good movies and books and spend some time together helping the kids develop a love of reading. Enjoy it while you can. Have a great weekend.
