Lyons police get new patrol car Chief Michael R. Donalty of the Lyons Police Department announced Thursday that the Village Police Department has added a 2007 Dodge Charger police car to the fleet. The Charger replaces an outdated 2001 Chevrolet Impala, and marks the beginning of a new look for the Lyons Police Department. The new patrol vehicle is all black, a stark contrast to the traditional white cars of the past, and sports a newly-designed graphics package. The Charger was purchased from Warnock Fleet Sales in NJ, and is equipped with state-of-the-art warning lights and equipment. Communications equipment was installed locally by Furman Communications of Savannah, and the graphics package was designed and installed by New Age Photo and Print, Maple Street, Lyons. The new Charger is also equipped with a license plate reader, the latest crime-fighting tool received by the Lyons Police under a grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Project IMPACT Tools Initiative. The reader picks up information on other drivers' license plates and sends a signal to the in-car computer with information on whether or not the driver is wanted for a crime or has any violations. The license plate reader can view and evaluate up to 1000 plates per hour, and will greatly improve the traffic enforcement efforts of the Police Department, as well as assist in the recovery of stolen vehicles and apprehension of wanted criminals. 'It should prove to be an invaluable tool to our officers,' said Chief Michael R. Donalty. Copyright
