Senior Corps picnic at Lyons VFW The Foster Grandparent Program, the Senior Companion Program, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program joined together for the annual wellness picnic on July 25. The picnic was held at the Lyons VFW pavilion beginning with coffee and snacks. Approximately 200 volunteers enjoyed a day of socializing, great weather, listening to music, and delicious food. Geri Morse did a presentation on Bones, which was very interesting. Before and during lunch, Becky Pezzulo performed songs that the seniors could dance and sing to. Lunch consisted of chicken barbecue, macaroni salad, baked beans, cole slaw, rolls, and butter. The three Senior Corps programs offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. Foster Grandparents provide individual attention to children up to age 21 who have special needs. Senior Companions provide service to people 21 years of age and older. In return for 20 hours of service a week, volunteers from both programs receive a tax-free stipend. RSVP volunteers serve in many ways. RSVP seeks to use the experience of seniors in bettering their communities. The Foster Grandparent Program and RSVP are sponsored by Wayne County Action Program, Inc., and funded by the Corporation for National Service and the N.Y.S. Office for the Aging. Call 946.7530.
