Quinn named Lyons FD Chaplain

Chief Chuck Witt of the Lyons Fire Department has appointed Frank Quinn of Lyons to assume the position of Chaplain for the Lyons Fire Department.

Quinn has been a member of the Lyons Fire Department for thirty years. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a dispatcher for Wayne County 911. He has a background in counseling and is currently working part-time at the Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic in the Psychiatric Unit.

Quinn is an active member of St. Michael's RC Church in Lyons and serves as a Lay Presider and a Eucharistic Minister.

Chief Witt said, 'Frank is well qualified for the position of Fire Chaplain and will be a tremendous resource to our department. The men respect Frank. He is a calm and caring presence. He is also a person of faith. He'll do a good job for us.'

A Fire Chaplain is a person - lay or ordained - chosen to serve the needs of members of a paid or volunteer fire department. The New York State Association of Fire Chaplains (NYAFC) provides training and fellowship for fire chaplains of all faiths. Founded in 1966, the Association has approximately 500 members - both lay and ordained chaplains. Fire chaplains work alongside their colleagues in combating fire and meeting both human and spiritual needs. Fire chaplains are available to the Fire Department for alarms, drills, meetings, memorials and other public functions.

Quinn replaces the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel, who is assuming a new pastorate at the First Presbyterian Church in Waverly, NY. Frank and his wife, Dottie, reside in Lyons and have two grown daughters. He is the first Lay Fire Chaplain for the Lyons Fire Department.
