State award to Arney's Marina

The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) presented its first Clean Vessel Assistance Program (CVAP) Excellence Award on August 2, to Arney's Marina in Sodus Point.

The award recognizes the marina's support of the CVAP and its mission to help prevent water pollution.

Erick McCandless presented the award at the marina to JoEllen Arney, marina Co-owner and Manager.

Arney's Marina supports the Clean Vessel Assistance Program (CVAP) to improve water quality in waterways and for providing recreational boaters with pumpout services.

The CVAP provides federally funded grants to assist marinas, municipalities and not-for-profit organizations with the costs of installing pumpout and dump station facilities to receive sewage from recreational boats. Grants are available for up to 75% of eligible project costs with a current maximum of $35,000 per project. EFC administers the program under a contract with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Arney's Marina was the first CVAP grant recipient and recently received an additional grant to upgrade its facility.

It has pumpout signs posted, provides an attendant for assistance with pumpouts and monitors a VHF channel to guide boaters to the facility. The marina also gives a free pumpout to boaters purchasing gas to encourage their use of the pumpout.

'We are honored with this award and extend our gratitude to EFC and DEC for the funding they made available for this purpose,' said JoEllen Arney. 'A small marina such as ours could never have afforded this greatly needed service.'

Michael Sullivan, Mayor of Sodus Bay, said: Congratulations to Arneys Marina on receiving the Pumpout Excellence Award. It is well deserved and reflects the long-standing efforts of the owners and staff as leaders in enhancing the water quality of Sodus Bay.
