Public invited to Doug Kent Day
By John Zornow

Doug KentNewark's Doug Kent, World Champion Professional Bowler and business owner, is about to be inducted into the unofficial 'Hall of Fame' of famous Newark people.

Kent joins Newark notables such as Charles Jackson, author of the book Lost Weekend, Sybil Shearer, modern dance pioneer, and Leslie Gehres, Captain of the WWII ship that wouldn't die, the USS Franklin.

But, unlike those people who moved away and gained celebrity, Kent has chosen Newark as his hometown, a place to live, work and raise a family.

Newark Chamber of Commerce, and the Village of Newark invites the public to meet and visit with the 2007 PBA twice champion and 2007 PBA Bowler of the Year Tuesday, August 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Erie Falcon Country Club. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar.

A special ceremony will be conducted prior to the celebration as a street sign 'Doug Kent Lane' will be dedicated directly behind Doug Kent's Rose Bowl Lanes - corner of West Miller and Finch Street.

In addition, the village will install signs along major entrances to Newark, declaring that the community is the home of Doug Kent, World Champion Bowler.
