Triathlon Aug. 19 in Sodus Point The SP Triathlon takes place in the quaint Village of Sodus Point on Lake Ontario. Triathlon participants from all over the area take part in this wonderful event. As a participant you get to swim near the Sodus Point lighthouse, bike within the old countryside and run along side the Lakeshore, through the large colonial home area. The race is limited to 200 registered competitors and consists of a .45 mile swim, 13.1 bike course and ending with a 5K run. Registration and course information can be downloaded at Wetsuits are recommended for the Lake Ontario swim. The Triathlon is an inspiring event to watch. The participants, the volunteers and the local supporters give this event a true feeling of community. Another great reason to join the event either as a participant, volunteer or observer is to see the exciting renovations to Sodus Point Park. A new Bath House has been constructed and a Greenway Trail has been added along the Bay shoreline. The true essence of Sodus Point can be seen along the Triathlon route. The Sodus Point Lighthouse is the featured landmark since it is visible multiple times throughout the event. Yellow Jacket Racing sponsors the race with the cooperation of the Town of Sodus, Village of Sodus Point, SP Police and Fire Dept, U.S. Coast Guard, Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth and WC Sheriff. The 20-25 race course volunteers are organized by the Neighborhood Association of Sodus Point (NASP). If you are interested in volunteering, please call Penny Shockley at 946.5624. Yellow Jacket donates a portion of their proceeds to the NASP to support community projects. Copyright
