Lyons bids Pastor Cynthia farewell

The Lyons VFW was filled with well-wishers yesterday afternoon, who came to laugh and cry with Pastor Cynthia Huling-Hummel.

After 11 years in the Lyons Community, Cynthia and Jon Hummel are moving to Waverly, NY where she will be pastor of First Presbyterian Church. She will lead her first service on September 2.

The afternoon was a 'Celebration of Ministry.'

Music started at 1:45, with praise songs by the Mt. Zion Unity Choir. The Sabbath Singers presented special music, as did Pastor Cynthia and Beth Whitbeck, singing and playing guitars.

The Rev. Joelle Davis-Moriarty, Executive Presbyter - Geneva, gave the Meditation. The Rev. King Lewis invited the people to share their blessings, making donations to the Lyons Food Pantry.

Other community leaders who spoke were Mayor Corrine Kleisle, Scott Simmons, Rick Winder, Steve Van Duyne, Chuck Witt, Rev. Cassandra Salter-Smith (pictured here with Cynthia), Elder Ed Marriott and Deacon Ed Sergeant.

Pastor Cynthia gave the benediction after the celebration, and the Mt. Zion Choir concluded with a Song of Praise.

There was fellowship and food afterwards, and dancing to songs played by 'The House Rockers.' Rockers members are Cynthia Huling-Hummel, Jeff Hayes, Steve Wickman, Pete Kitchen, Fred DeBuck.
