Missing Sodus Where is the summer going?! Next week, a lot of the college kids will be going back to school already. It's when the kids get older that you enjoy having them around for summer vacations. It'll be back to loading up the car to the ceiling, packing up the refrigerator and helping them set up their rooms with their new roommates (whom you hope they will click with and be friends for the whole year at school). As much as I hate moving, I guess I'd better get used to it. We are looking forward to moving back into the area, walks along the beach in Sodus Point, going to the events in the area without having to drive so far to get to them. I think one of the first things we'll do when we get back, is take some bread and sit on one of the benches, watch the water and feed the ducks. We have lived the faster pace for nine years and now it's time to come back and slow down. The Summer Reading programs are now finished with many winners. (Of course, anyone who read lots of books during the summer time is a winner.) The Library program finished up the fun on Thursday with the family picnic and a visit from magician Jim Bush. (We still have the Jim Bush big buck from a summer program years ago. He is very good.) Tales from the Porch ended with tales of the past - leading the listeners back over 200 years into the past of the Maxwell Creek Bed and Breakfast. Belinda McElroy told the stories of the past at the Bed and Breakfast, revisiting the Swail and Gaylord families. What a great way to end the program for the summer, and next year, we will have more fun adventures to look forward to. The library still has their Storytimes: August 20 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m. August 27 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m for the younger children to enjoy. A fun event to look for on the l7th and l8th is the Wayne County Fire Fighters Softball Tournament at the Williamson Firemen's Park on West Main St., Williamson. Have you checked out Ruth Lennox's new shoppe in Sodus Point? Another fun way to spend a beautiful summer's day is listening to steel drums (as their melodious tones drift over the water of Sodus Point). If you like Calypso and Soca music, then this Sunday at the Lighthouse Concert is where you and your families want to have your chairs and blankets spread out. Panloco Steel drum band will be performing Sunday, the l9th. (I love the sound of steel drums. I might be there myself!) The concert is from 2-4. Sounds like a lot of fun. The exotic island sounds come right to you. Congratulations to the Pike family. Melonie and Donny and proud grandparents once again. Nathan Thomas Apps (Shawna's 2nd!) was born Friday, August 3, 2007 at 10:20 p.m. 21' 8 lbs. 1 oz. He and Shawna were discharged late Sunday morning, and they're both doing great! And, of course, congratulations to Shawna and her husband on their new baby. What does Paige think of her new brother? A quick way to get fruit into kids who don't like fruit: Peel and slice an apple then space around on a plate. Add some cinnamon, brown sugar (I think Splenda has brown sugar if you don't want the calories) and some quick cook oatmeal. Sprinkle all over the top of the apples. Microwave for about 2-3 minutes, let cool and you have a healthy, good-tasting treat. Before we know it, we'll be picking apples at Alasa Farms and the Apple Shed. But until that time comes, enjoy the last weeks of summer. I still can't beleive it went so fast. Read stories outside on the porch with the breeze blowing around you and be sure to take the time in your busy day to feel the sunshine on your face and breathe in some fresh summer air. Take in every minute of it - go for a walk after dinner and have fun with your families and friends. If you have birthdays, events, fun things you 've been doing or recipes to share, please send them along. Copyright
