County Tax Director resigns

Monday, Wayne County supervisors met in a closed-door session to discuss the abrupt resignation of Director of Real Property Tax Services, Robert Diener last Wednesday. His letter of resignation cited 'additional job opportunities and personal reasons.'

That same day, a special committee meeting was scheduled for Monday. The two committees that gathered were Assessments/Insurance and Personnel/Salary.

When Diener tendered his resignation, he left county premises and told co-workers he would not be returning after that day.

Diener has since had second thoughts and let officials know that he wanted to keep his job.

At Tuesday's regularly scheduled Board meeting, however, supervisors authorized advertising for a new Director. Some have let him know that he is welcome to apply for his old job back. His current salary is set at $65,608. He held the post for over 15 years.

Not long ago, Diener made it public that he wanted to be considered for the post of County Administrator. He said he felt that supervisors were overlooking some knowledge and talent that already existed in their workforce.

The County's website already has his named removed, and replaced with that of Nelson Claeysen.
