Historic Marion building gone

Last Friday (August 17, 2007), the steeple-tower was torn down at the Marion Presbyterian Church on North Main Street. Folks gathered on both sides of the street to watch its demise.

Marion Pres. Church steeple-tower

This impressive structure was erected in 1911 replacing a stately, white New England-style edifice which had been on the same property.

Bystanders talked about having been married in this (crumbling) cement block building.

These blocks were made at Marion's Cement Block Factory - once housed on South Union Street.
