Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

We were in the area during the week, as we will be a lot in the next few weeks off and on. I had a job interview at one of the day care centers in the area.Of course, we wandered down by Sodus Point, but we didn't see any ducks.

This weekend we will be up earlier than we have been in months. It is move-in weekend at the college, so at 9 a.m., we will be moving my son and his refrigerator back into his new dorm. Didn't I just do this?!

The reading Programs are finished but don't forget there are still storytimes and classes as well as other events to do at the Libraries.

From Carol Garland: Remember, you have until August 31 to turn in your Bingo sheets. See you at the Library soon!

August 27 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Pretty soon, the older kids will be going to school and coming home sharing tales about their days. It's nice for the younger kids to have something they do that is special during the day, too.

An Apple Tasting Tour? Makes sense since Wayne County is Apple Country, right? Watch for details. It's coming in October.

A tip for keeping your apples fresh from the Wayne County Cornell Cooperative Extension: store apples at room temperature for a few days or in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Coming in September:

Debbie Wright is busy again. This time with the Cancer Awareness bake sale and can drive. Her registered Child Care will be having a bake sale September 8 from 12:30 - 2 p.m. at the CVS parking lot in the town of Sodus and a can drive on September 22 at the CVS parking lot from 4-5:30. All proceeds will go to help out with the ' Making Strides Walk' for Breast Cancer Awareness. All donations are welcome by calling 483.1778 and will be turned in on September the 30. For more information please feel free to call Debbie at 483.l778. If you remember, the kids were 'Hopping for Jerry' not too long ago. They have fun and are helping with a good cause. I visited the child care the day they were hopping and every child enjoyed participating. Good job, Debbie.

There are a lot of events scheduled for September but we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. It is still August.

It won't be long before Ralph and Betty Everdyke will feel the chill in the air and follow the geese back to the balmy shores of Florida. I know they, and many people from Newark, make the trek down, though it seems many of the geese go only as far as the orchards and ponds in our area. I know they are a nuisance but I will admit I love watching the ducks and geese cross the road in a line. (Mainly the geese - the ducks try to hurry.) If you want the geese to take longer to cross, just try blowing your horn at them. They are not about to hurry and you can hear them griping and carrying on. I swear they go slower on purpose.

A quick fun breakfast for the kids if they like eggs:

You will need soft tortillas, eggs for scrambling, some cheese (if your kids like cheese and what kid doesn't), milk, your frying pan and you are ready to begin.

Spray some cooking spray in your pan, scramble the eggs adding a tad of milk and some cheese. When finished, layer down the center of the tortillas, roll up and serve on a plate. Serve with some juice and you have made a healthy, fun breakfast.

If you have recipes you'd like to share please send them along, as well as favorite stories the kids enjoyed reading or books you yourselves enjoyed.

Myself? I will be glad the move of the college student will be done. It will give us more space to put our packed boxes. Two moves in one year are not fun. I must be nuts (or maybe a hidden nomad at heart).

Have a great weekend and enjoy your last week of 'official' summer. Soon it will be time to close the pool. Enjoy your weekend with your families and friends.
