Perkins School helps Toys for Tots This is the 60th anniversary for the Toys for Tots tradition of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. In 2006, Toys for Tots delivered more than 19.2 million toys to over 7.6 million children. With more than 13 million children living in poverty, Toys for Tots' need for help is greater than ever. Their goal is to deliver a toy to every child in need. Perkins School in Newark has a tradition of holding a bake sale and toy drive during the month of December to raise the funds needed to purchase toys for those children that might not otherwise have a toy on Christmas. December 7 and 8, 2007, Perkins school Pre-K and Kindergarten students, once again returned to the traditional bake sale and toy collection. Students, teachers and parent volunteers collaborated to bake cookies, brownies and cupcakes and then sold them to their schoolmates, staff and visitors. The 'Helping Others' theme taught during this project is part of the school's curriculum of kindness. After the bake sale, the pre-K and Kindergarten teachers take the funds raised from the bake sale to our local Wal-Mart to purchase toys. Newark Wal-Mart has graciously donated a $25 gift certificate this year. It seems the spirit of giving during this event moves many. Teacher Lucille Aranzullo writes: 'This year we raised $617.12 and purchased 103 toys. We are still collecting unwrapped new toys at Perkins school until December 17. The Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers thank everyone for their time and donations.' Copyright
