Diver qualifies for States and sets records

Colin Johnson Colin Johnson qualified for state competition and set two school records at the Canandaigua Diving Invitational on Jan. 27. He placed sixth at the meet.

He is the first member of the Newark Swimming and Diving Team to qualify for states in eight years.

He led the diving team with his 11 dive state qualifying and school record score of 417.65.

He broke Nate Van Gorder's 1997 record by eight points.

On the way to his 11 dive score, his six-dive total of 230.35 set a new school record, beating his older brother Jason Johnson's record by one point.

Also diving well for the Reds were Grant Oosterling and Aaron LaTray. Oosterling placed 11th, and was 46 points over his previous best score.

LaTray was 12th, and his score was 71 points better than his previous best score.

The divers competed February 1 at the Finger Lakes Championship Meet in Canandaigua.
