Newark boys win track title The Class C Sectional Indoor Track Trophy is something not every school gets to hold, and this year the Boys Indoor Track Team took home the title for the second year in a row. In 2006, the Reds out performed their original seed in the meet, and took home the Sectional Trophy in a down-to-the-last-minute upset over Wayne. The Reds won their second Class C Sectional Title in two years. Emotions were high for the Newark Team as the announcer read off the results of the meet. The Reds won an impressive victory with a score of 136, outscoring second-place Palmyra-Macedon by 54 points. Newark Coach Joe Contario commented on the back-to-back titles, saying, 'Last year our team wasn't supposed to win. This year, everyone knew that we were the team to beat. Even with those expectations, we completely dominated the meet.' Scoring for the Reds was Orcun Apak, who took second in the Boys 55 Meter Dash, second in the long jump, and third in the triple jump; Chris Bulman, third in the 300m and first in the 600m; Seth LaTray, first in the 1600m and the 3200m; Omar Osmen and Lamahr Sergent, who both took 4th and 5th in the 55m hurdles; Billy Callahan, second in the high jump and triple jump, and third in the long jump; Josh Putman, fourth in the long jump; Josh Schober, second in the pole vault; John Gardner, second in the shot put; and Breiten Balschmiter, fourth in the shot put. The Lady Reds outperformed their predicted seed and placed second, losing to Batavia by a slim margin of four points. Copyright
