Join Feather Fanciers in Newark

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a State Department of Environmental Conservation Wildlife Rehabilitator? The Wayne County 4-H club, Wayne County Feather Fanciers, would like to tell you.

Learn about this challenging commitment on Saturday, March 3 at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 1581 Hydesville Road in Newark, from 10-11:30 a.m.

Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator Kris Steffan will be there to share her knowledge and expertise, answer your important questions and advise you regarding how to properly interact with injured or orphaned wildlife. She will also introduce you to a Turkey Vulture and two Owls she has returned to health, but who are unable to return to the wild.

What Wildlife Rehabilitators do is completely voluntary. CCE hopes to provide some money for Steffan to use in her work. Please donate a dollar or more for admission, AND/OR bring a wish list item:

  • Cotton or paper towels
  • pine shavings
  • 40-60W light bulbs
  • heat lamps
  • heating pads
  • five- or 10-gallon aquariums with screen tops
  • pet carriers
  • metal cages
  • pet dishes
  • cleaning supplies including bleach, long-handled brushes
  • cage building materials (wire mesh, lumber, hinges)
  • wild bird seed
  • bulk unsalted in-shell peanuts
  • dog/cat food
  • hay/straw

Please pre-register by calling 4-H volunteer Donna Johnson at 926.0016.
