New director at County Museum
Evans' first undertaking began by working on a major fundraiser for the Society, the Lock up & Jail 'em, where Wayne County VIP's will be 'detained,' brought to the Museum on Butternut Street, Lyons and held until each raises $500 in pledges from friends and family. 'We are trying to make the Lock Up a fun fundraiser. We've contacted massage therapists to relax the detainees while they make their calls,' said Evans. Evans' duties as Executive Director will include fundraising, outreach, grant writing and PR. 'I'd love to put a new spin on the museum to draw those who may not have ever visited this historic building and seen all the the wonderful artifacts and history it houses. At the same time, I want to keep longtime members comfortable with what they are used to.' One of the PR tools that Evans is now looking to rework is the website. 'I think that virtual tours will be a real plus to the site,' said Evans. Evans' background is in film, radio and theatre and is a contributing writer to an area newspaper. 'It's like coming home,' said Evans about her new position at the museum. (Evans' great-grandfather was Sheriff Jerry Collins, who lived on the premises when he was Sheriff of Wayne County.
