Tax counselors needed

It's not too late to assist senior citizens with their taxes for the 2006 tax season. This is a great way to give back to your community, and to help senior citizens who are sometimes intimidated by the IRS and trying to complete their own tax returns.

Volunteer tax counselors receive a volunteer student guide provided by the IRS, and a two-day training which is scheduled for the second week in January.

For 26 years, volunteers have assisted senior citizens in Wayne County with their tax returns. Lucia Monroe, Coordinator for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program, prepares tax returns and provides assistance to the following volunteer tax counselors:

Gary Smith, Anita VanLaeken, Gail Ellsworth, Neil DeVries, Sylvia Ryndock, and Carl Winkelbauer. New to the program are Kathy Delano and Frances Castle.
