Supervisor Park opposes pay raises
By Donna Comella

No one spoke at Tuesday's public hearing to raise the salaries of certain County Officers for 2007. When the public hearing closed, Supervisor Jim Fabino (Lyons) stood and said he would like to be put on record as opposing the two sections of the law that would raise the salary of County Treasurer Tom Warnick to $64,653 and the salary of the vacant County Administrator post to $95,000. He gave no reason for his objections and voted yes to the law.

Only Supervisor Kim Park (Wolcott) voted 'no' on the pay raises.

In other business, the Wayne County Board of Supervisors:

  • Unanimously authorized a contract with Youth Advocacy Program with the Department of Social Services for $200,000. The program will reduce the number of youths who are placed outside the home and return them to the community.

Supervisor Joe DeSanto (Arcadia) voted for the resolution, but expressed his concern that some of these youths are disruptive in school classrooms and take learning time away from other students.

  • Presented a Proclamation of Appreciation to Virginia Robinson for her 39 years of service to the County. Robinson, of Rose, retired January 1 from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Authorized Planning Director Sharon Lilla to be a member of the Rural Housing Opportunities Corporation's Board of Directors.
  • Accepted an $8,700 grant from the NY State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee for the Sheriff's Dept. to participate in the Child Passenger Safety Program and $4,578 for the Buckle Up New York program.

Note: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 9 a.m. and not the usual Tuesday. Meetings are held in the second-floor Supervisors' Chambers in the Old County Courthouse in Lyons.
